Garden and Greenhouse

Image
Now that we're in the middle of summer, I thought it was about time to show an update on our garden, which the last time you saw it the starter plants may still have been in the greenhouse. The garden is growing beautifully for the most part. Some variety of plants didn't survive the late June frost we got, which is disappointing. But that is life. One never knows when or if frost will hit in June yet. And with a humongous garden there is simply no way to cover everything up when we hear of a frost warning. But, we're so thankful for the plants that survived. We've been able to enjoy fresh garden produce already.  We also did leave some plants in the greenhouse. We are doing it to see how much faster the fruit will grow in there, and if cabbage does better in the greenhouse than in the garden. So it is a trial run for us this year. We also planted 60+ strawberry plants this year, as well as 12 saskatoon trees, 2 blueberry trees, and a plum tree. But all of those will ta...

Big change for Bowser and Lightning

Image
Those holstein newborn calves (named Bowser and Lightning) we posted about a while back are no longer newborns. In fact, they now have reached the "big boy age" and are officially done with getting a few bottles of milk every day. So today is the bittersweet day where we disinfect and thoroughly wash those calf bottles and put them into the barn on a shelf for storage. (We wash those bottles after every single feeding, but only disinfect them when they go into storage and when coming out of storage.) Off to alot of grass grazing for Bowser and Lightning. It was fun pausing the busyness of the day and simply stand out by the fence to give the calves bottles daily. But it will be awesome not needing to wash those bottles a couple times per day anymore (for now atleast). So ends the day. All pictures are totally unedited, and no filter was used. Sunset was simply outstandingly gorgeous!
